Thank you for becoming a Portfolio Charts member!
The password system on Portfolio Charts is a little unusual, so a quick explanation should hopefully clear things up. There are two passwords to be aware of:
- An account password that you create when you became a member. This is a permanent password that is unique to you. It’s what you use to log in using the person icon at the top-right of the page when you want to manage your account, read the members feed, or claim a member discount on a product.
- An access code that you use to access specific members-only tools like My Portfolio. This is the same for all members and changes monthly. You can find the access code by logging in to your account and looking for the most recent post in the members feed. You only need to enter the access code once per month.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why the weird system?
The transaction-based features on Portfolio Charts are run by an outside company on different servers from the rest of the site, and the two systems don’t talk to each other. The good thing about that separation is that all of your personal financial information is professionally managed. But one tradeoff is that accessing some of the member tools requires an extra step.
Do I need to enter an access code every time I use My Portfolio?
No! Once you correctly enter the access code, it stores a cookie in your browser that is good until it changes at the beginning of the month. So if you ever go to the My Portfolio page and it asks for an access code, then just log in to your account and find the new code that will be good for the next month. If it asks for an access code every time, that probably means that you have cookies disabled.
Have you considered making it simpler?
I’m always looking to improve the user experience. The two-password system is the best option with the tools currently at my disposal, but I plan to improve things over time as new options become available.
Who can help me if I’m having issues logging in?
I’m happy to help! Please send me a note through the Contact page and I’ll personally get back to you as soon as possible.
