Alternatives

Other options when no large cap growth funds are available

  • Large Cap Blend — Because the largest and fastest-growing companies dominate any index weighted by market cap, LCB funds are already pretty growth oriented.
  • USA Large Cap Growth — The US constitutes a large percentage of the total world market, and there are more factor funds available there than elsewhere.

Definition

large cap growth definition

The Portfolio Charts large cap growth data tracks the largest 85% of a given market sorted by capitalization. Consistent with most index fund definitions, large cap funds also include mid cap companies. This is sometimes referred to as the “standard” index.

Some index providers define large cap blend using a company count instead of market percentages. Because of the way both methods are based on historical standards in the data, they should still be in the same ballpark.

“Growth” means that the index focuses on the half of the market considered overpriced relative to company fundamentals. While that may sound like a negative, it also means that they are some of the highest growth companies in the world in the most popular industries of the time. Even if the entire market is undervalued or overvalued, the fund will still hold the relatively growth-oriented half of the market.
