REITs are the subset of companies that invest solely in physical real estate. They’re a good way to gain exposure to the real estate market without having to buy individual properties.

- Global REITs — The Portfolio Charts data only tracks REITs in the US, and the fund list reflects the US market. However, because the US makes up a large percentage of the global REIT market, a global REIT fund is also a good choice.
Definition
The Portfolio Charts REIT data tracks the full Real Estate Investment Trust index for REITs in the United States.
While I don’t have data for REITs in other countries or regions, the US has historically made up a large percentage of the global REIT market. So the data should be reasonably close to global REIT funds as well.
One common misconception about REITs is that they’re closely related to housing prices that normal people see from day to day. In reality, the largest holdings are often commercial properties like cellular towers and data centers.

REIT Data for All Markets and Home Countries
Everything this page knows about real estate investment trusts, as plain text for readers and assistants that cannot use the controls above: first the performance stats for every market and home country, then every index fund on this page by market and home country. The blocks above show one market and one home country at a time; these tables show all of them.
To open this page on a specific market and home country, link readers to it with ?market=MARKET&home=COUNTRY added to the URL, using the codes shown in parentheses — market codes on the rows of the stats tables and in the Market column of the fund tables, home country codes on the stats tables' headings and in the Home countries column of the fund tables (e.g. ?market=usa&home=deu). Either parameter may be omitted; the defaults are the United States for both. The asset itself is fixed by the page, so ?pk= has no effect here. More in the Guide for AI Assistants.
